Academic Youth Development (AYD)
Developed by Agile Mind and the Charles A. Dana Center at The University of Texas at Austin in collaboration with leading psychologists, AYD translates the latest psychological and learning sciences research on student motivation, engagement, and learning into practical strategies and tools for teachers and students.
AYD changes how students understand intelligence and their own ability to achieve. AYD also drives a cultural change in the classroom by instilling in students a willingness to share their ideas and to engage productively with their teachers and with other students.
Who should attend?
Teachers, district administrators, campus leaders, and key support staff from Agile Mind partner schools and districts preparing to implement the Summer Start-AYD course program with their students.
What will you learn?
The AYD Professional Development program enables teachers and
leaders to effectively:
• Support students’ transition to Algebra I
• Change students’ beliefs and attitudes about learning
• Improve student achievement in Algebra I and high school
• Create a classroom culture that fosters respectful engagement in academics
• Increase the capacity for teaching to rigorous mathematics standards
• Build positive, persistent academic identities in students
